On Sunday 7th February 2010 after a successful 1st steam test, the J72 moved around the Hopetown Carriage Works, Darlington yard under its own steam for the first time in 14 years following the virtual completion of its overhaul.

NELPG now has a new list of small jobs which include final fitting of the steam sand pipes, a few lubrication and vacuum pipes and final painting.

This stalwart locomotive is now on the bounds of being available for hire!  The J72 will be transported to Locomotion at Shildon in the near future for final painting and will then be “run in” at that location.
